World Vision Ireland
Overview
World Vision Ireland is one of the world’s leading relief and development agencies. They’re presently helping more than 100 million people in nearly 100 countries in their struggle against poverty, hunger and injustice, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
I did the design and developed the HTML and CSS for this user-friendly and fresh e-commerce site. It is built on Goodbarry from Business Catalyst, an easy to install and, what count most, free e-commerce platform that unfortunately has some drawbacks.
Firstly, it turned out to be not that flexible as we thought. Some bits of generated code cannot be modified and you have to dig your way out to get what you need. Secondly, it doesn’t generate accessible code at all. Most of the interaction cannot be performed when JavaScript is disabled.
Although, the company I was working for, together with the client, decided to go ahead with this product because the project didn’t have any accessibility requirements and this solution was good and cheap enough to be adopted.
We’ve used some jQuery to manipulate the generated code in order to get what we needed. This is probably the best and quickest solution when you find yourself dealing with CMSs that have modules or controls that cannot be customized.
Worldvision also got showcased on the Adobe Business Catalyst website as a sample of what can be done using with Goodbarry!
